Rockcastle Spring's watershed is protected by thousand of acres of unspoiled national forest that lies within 300 feet of the mouth of the spring. This will ensure that the water from the spring will be pure and natural for many decades to come.
The flow rates estimated by entities indicate that the watershed area providing water to the spring is relatively large. Bedrock dips (direction and angle of inclination) to the southeast (toward the spring from the adjacent Daniel Boone Forest) indicating that the majority of the watershed area supplying water to the spring is to the north and northeast. Comparison of the regional geologic map further indicates that the watershed likely extends several miles to the northeast.
